French Parisian operator RATP wanted a slice of the New York open top tour business, but unfortunately bit off more than it could chew and sold out to Big Bus who were already well established in the Big Apple when these pictures were taken in July 2017. The operation started in 2014 and boasted about its fleet of new buses which totalled fifteen, but it sold out later in 2017, the fleet then topping out at 36. RATP open top livery was based on national flags which worked well for the Union Jack and Tricolore but was a bit ungainly with the Stars and Stripes, the stars being relegated to the back of the bus! The New York fleet standardised on the popular Alexander Dennis Enviro400 like 110 here in Devil's Kitchen, pulling in front of then rival Big Bus Enviro500 ADL15.

The rear of Enviro400 132 at the Devil's Kitchen headstop shows the stars of the Stars and Stripes, just the two, not the customary fifty!

As can just be seen on the buses above, the money to be made from turning your tour bus into a mobile advertisemnet is irresistable. Enviro400 113 is advertising a new TV series on TNT about William Shakespeare before he was famous. Perhaps if they had concentrated on self marketing they might not have sold out.
