LOW FELL COACHES |

When the Tyne and Wear Metro started operation, all bus services crossing the Tyne were withdrawn under the then PTE's aegis to effectively force passengers on to the Metro. Low Fell Coaches, based on the south bank of the river responded to the local community and after some opposition in the traffic courts introduced a cross Tyne service over the famous Gateshead Bridge. In subsequent years the operation was bought by the privatised Go-Ahead group. 4812 (L212KEF) is an unusual bus, a Volvo B10B-58 with Alexander Strider bodywork. The bus was new to OK Motor Services in 1989 and taken over by the Go Ahead group in 1995. It is seen in this picture with Low Fell in 1999. |
