D55 (PBL55F) from the last batch of Bristol Lodekkas for Thames Valley. The bus was based in Reading, but is seen at Newbury Wharf Bus Station at the end of the 1A route connecting the two towns. Note that this batch of vehicles lacked the Cave-Brown-Cave heaters. The bus did not live its full life with Thames Valley and its successor Alder Valley, but was transferred to Scotland as Western SMT 2413 in exchange for a Bristol VR. This was part of a major VR-FLF swop between NBC and SBG fleets. |

Three of Western SMT's short lived VRs exchanged with Alder Valley are seen in this shot at Reading depot with a native example. They were immediately recognisable by their Scottish triangular blind boxes and more subtlely by their black window rubbers. From the left are former 2270 (OCS596H), 2239 (NAG590G) and 2268 (OCS594H). |
Alder Valley 885 (NAG590G) is seen a few years later having gained a standard destination blind and sporting the revised NBC fleetname with a red and blue double N on a white background. It is in Reading's Thorn Walk depot. |
Another Western VR at Ellesborough on the Aylesbury - Wycombe service through the Chilterns. |
