Stagecoach East replaced its Cambridge open top Olympians with their ubiquitous Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Tridents cascaded from Stagecoach in London. This was TA78 in the capital, now 17078 and further disguised by being reregistered from T678KPU to TSU639 seen in Cambridge in August 2014. Picture ref A4081 |
Quite a queue had formed at one of the main city stops near Drummer Street Bus Station that day - then of course two buses turn up at once. Former Stagecoach Selkent TA275, now 17275 reregistered from T377NNO to ACZ7492 is loading while 17078 overtakes to get back on schedule as the buses battle Cambridge's summer traffic. The Wright bodied Volvo B5TL is an unusual combination to find in a Stagecoach fleet but in open top form the company bought buses for its Lake District and Cambridge operations. The five in Cambridge, 13808-13812 (BV18YBA-YBE) barely managed a season before Covid struck. The one in the middle, 13810 (BV18YBC), was being used as a driver rest room in Drummer Street Bus Station in August 2021 and only used on city tours at the weekend. The five buses have been seconded to supplement the former Megasightseeing opentop Enviro400 buses on the relaunched City Sightseeing tours of london.
