 The X5 service, launches with branded Volvo coaches in standard Stagecoach livery was shifted upmarket in late 2014 with a brand new fleet of Volvo B11RT tri-axle coaches featuring the very attractive and stylish Plaxton Elite coachwork. Volvo 54316 (YX64WDA) is seen at Milton Keynes Station in July 2015 on its way to Cambridge via Bedford.

 In July 2017 the first of the fleet of eighteen luxury X5 coaches, 54301 (YX64WCD) is seen in Cambridge bound for Oxford. Sadly the route was split in 2020 at Bedford, the Bedford-Oxford section retaining the X5 route number, and the Elite fleet. The Bedford-Cambridge Section became route 905 and doubledeck operated by standard Enviro400 buses. Apparently relatively few passengers traversed Bedford and the Cambridge section was becoming heavily used and in danger of exceeding the capacity of the Elites, which was 57 seated.

 The previous summer, in June, the last of the batch, 54318 (YX64WDD), is seen arriving in Oxford.
