The VDL is seen again at work on route 4E on Midsummer Boulevard in mid summer in late June 2009. It was by then in Arriva ownership allocated fleet number 3731 in the Arriva the Shires scheme. It had been repainted into route 4 red livery, but gained no route branding beyond the colour. It would not be long before it donned corporate Arriva colours.
