Abus Optare Spectra R222AJP
There was a bit of rivalry between Abus and Travel West Midlands as to which put the first low floor doubledeck bus into service. This is Abus' contenderm R222AJP, seen at the Brislington Bristol Rally in August 2013. The rival was TWM Optare Spectra 1 (R1NEG), displayed at SHOWBUS shortly after in September 1998.

A-Bus Optare Spectra R222 AJP
The first low floor doubledecker to go into public service - just. Apparently A-Bus' R222AJP pipped TWM by a matter of seconds. Here it is at the Weston West Of England rally in August that year. Contact between the Showbus organisers and A Bus at Weston resulted in the vehicle appearing at Duxford a few weeks later, as seen below.

Spectras at Showbus 98
Seen in the company of its rival for the 'first' title, A-bus' R222AJP and TWM 1. Completing the trio is one of Wilts & Dorset's three low floor Spectras at the time.
