Eastern National Bristol VRTSL6G ECW SBG
The Scottish Bus Group did not like the successor to the Lodekka, the Bristol VRTSL. After a couple of years thye did a deal with the National Bus Company and swapped all their VR buses for late model Lodekkas. Lurking in the depot is one such VRTSL6G which found its way to Eastern National with all fifteen of the ECW bodied buses originally supplied to Alexander (Midland). The bus is instantly recognisable as a former Scottish bus by its triangular destination display. Eastern National had already bought five of this model with standard T-shaped Tilling destinations. Some of the Scottish buses entered service temporarily in Alexander (Midland) blue and cream.

Former Alexander (Midland) MRT3 (SMS33H) has had a standard T-blind fitted upside down. The bus, now Eastern National 3004, was at Tilbury Ferry with a London Country Routemaster. The VR was sold on to Crosville in 1982 as DVG554, passing to Crosville Cymru at deregulation where it lasted till 1990.

Eastern National's first Bristol VR, 3000 (CPU979G) lasted a long time in the fleet, ending its days in 1991 renumbered as 9000 in its final role as a driver trainer. It then went to Northern Bus in Yorkshire until acquired for preservation in 1997.

The VRTSL6G was on show the following July at North Weald. It was new with a Tilling T-style destination blind, inverted at the rear, but gained the side by side display later in life, which is probably why it has been preserved in NBC colours rather than its original Tilling Green and Cream.
