Abellio introduced some variety to the London electric bus scheme with the first purchase of Caetano's eCity Gold battery powered singledecker. A further order has been placed so the model must be a success, though Abellio have no other electrics to compare them to. Apart from the silver "grill" on the front the design has a disappointing box on wheels profile. Their debut was on the C10 and 1516 (BV20GRX), new in March 2020 but photographed near the Elephant and Castle in July 2021.

Revealed by the camera on another eCity Gold on the C10 to Canada Water, 1528 (BV20GUD), the buses blinds are electric display screens. It has taken TfL about twenty years to start using twenty first century technology. They may even get to use it intelligently in another twenty years and reintroduce via destinations. These were eliminated on the grounds that they were confusing to passengers as, when boarding, it would be unclear whether the bus had passed the via point or not - it was deemed much better to give them no idea as to which route the bus was taking to reach its ultimate destinaton!
