With its hugely standardised fleet of RT style doubledeckers in the immediate post-war period, London Transport found a need for lowbridge models and bought 76 fairly standard Weymann bodied AEC Regent IIIs with the then normal four seat rows on the top deck and an offside sunken gangway for seat access. They saw service in both central and country areas. On withdrawal they were popular overseas buys being genuine London buses and within overseas height restrictions.
