Trent Barton was loyal to Optare for some years. This Tempo, 303 (FD54JYB), is in bright green xprss livery in Nottingham Bus Station in March 2010. Trent Barton's exemplary marketing gears route relaunches to the arrival of new vehicles and cascading replaced vehicles to upgrade other routes. Timely delivery of new vehicles is therefore key and Optare went through a rough patch and temporarily fell out of favour with Trent Barton. Normal relations have since been resumed.

In 2011 Trent Barton bought the long established Felix Buses company which ran between Ilkeston and Derby. For years the company had used the Felix the Cat cartoon character to adorn the sides of its red buses. However they ran into copyright trouble with the cartoon creators and the cat disappeared from the fleet. The service is now branded Black Cat and Trent Barton use these suitably coloured Optare Tempos. There is also a blue Ilkeston Flyer service. Tempo 312 (YJ07VSG) is seen at the Trent Centenary Party in May 2013.

The X38 service operated between Burton and Derby is a joint operation between Arriva and Trent Barton. Whilst Arriva operate branded Versas, Trent Barton use these Arriva liveried Tempos like 307 (YJ07VSA).

The Tempo has had a contemporary facelift and Trent Barton was amongst the first customers for the new model for the i4 service. Optare 332 (YJ12GWN) is seen in Derby Bus Station.

Meanwhile sister vehicle 333 (YJ12GWO) was on display at the Trent Centenary birthday party.
