Sunday in Melbourne and somewhere on the Metro network you can bet buses will be replacing trains and last weekend buses were replacing trams on the major St Kilda Road artery into the city as the Domain Interchange was preparing for its third major revamp in the last ten years! Daniel "bloody" Andrews, the state premier has built himself a reputation on building new infrastructure always depicted in a Hi-Vis and hard hat. It seems to maintaint hat image he is happy to rebuild things for a second time! Back to the trains and the his pet project is replacing level crossings in the urban network, creating "skytrains" and demolishing iconic railway stations to save less than a minute on car commuter journeys! This is what was behind the closure on the Lilydale and associated lines east of the city last Sunday with Mee's Coaches being the principal provider but a multitude of other companies involved with the ubiquitous ex Transperth Volgren bodied Mercedes - most over twenty years old - foremost. Not one of those, but today's picture shows a Custom 550 bodied Mercedes O405NH ex Transdev Melbourne and originally National Bus 361 (OQC868). Still basically in Melbourne's abandoned SmartBus livery the bus is number 2 in the four strong fleet of Montrose Bus & Coach based on the eastern outskirts of the city. Having ended up as 701 (1758AO) with Transdev the bus now sports rego BS05OY.
