Our second Barbie bus of the year! The last was the all over Big Bus advert on an Enviro400 open topper in LA for the mega film release starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. This is one of the Wright Hydroliners newly in service with Translink Metro in Belfast on Tuesday, 5003 (XUI8003). Translink has done a good job of repainting the entire city fleet in the basic pink livery, and with the occasional Ulsterbus division blue bus around the city has a definite Barbie feel to it. The hydrogen powered Hydroliners are dwarfed in numbers by the contemporary battery powered Electroliners from Wrights, the majority are in all over pink, though a substantial number have a style to match 5003, but green replaces the blue. The Hydroliners have a very different lower deck seating layout to the Electroliners with not only the customary back to back seating over the rear wheelarch, but a similar arrangement in front of that, presumably atop some storage tanks. Twenty Hydroliners were delivered in 2021 but another twenty are expected, but only a handful of them are in service, which may be due to fuel supply problems. The 2023 delivery are unusual for the city fleet in being single door.
