TfNSW Custom Denning Elelment MO6520
Our regular contributor Nidhi Sharma realised she was travelling on something a bit different this week. An all electric bus on trial with Sydney Buses. There are very few electric buses in Australia, excluding the tiny shuttle around Melbourne's Royal Botanical Gardens, there is just one being trialled by Transdev. Hybrid and even Euro 6 buses are nowhere near mainstream either. This bus is especially different as it was built and designed in Australia by the recently merged Custom and Denning bus builders. All other Australian electrics rely on Chinese chassis or power trains, and the Chinese are not flavour of the month Down Under at the moment. This model is christened the Element Electric and a similar looking Element Hydrogen is not far behind using hrdrogen fuel cell propulsion. Whilst MO6520 is seen here on trial on the 355 to Marrickville Metro it is believed a sister vehicle has just started trials in Brisbane. British owned Custom Denning have hopes of an export market to the UK and will be sending a bus to test the market over there.
