City Sightseeing Belfast Mercedes 7
Our regular eagle eyed contributor, Paul McSherry, spotted this unusual sightseeing bus in Belast recently. The bus, a Mercedes 709D, was new to Ulsterbus in 1989 with a standard 25 seat Wright bus body as 840 (NXI6840). The original body was destroyed by arson, the chassis was then recovered and Ulsterbus fitted with this unique charabanc style body complete with soft top roof at their Duncrue Street works. It took to the road again in November 1994 renumbered 5, named Endeavour and reregistered CZ1988. It was initially used on tourist services in Portrush, County Antrim. It was later based at Coleraine depot in County Londonderry and at some point was allocated to the Flexibus fleet in Belfast. It is now in this red livery and lettered for City Sightseeing Belfast, the local franchisee having acquired the vehicle from Ulsterbus and retained the Endeavour name, but renumbered the bus as 7.
