Friday's tragedy in the centre of Melbourne caused widespread disruption for several hours with the main Bourke Street corridor being declared a crime scene from Southern Cross Station up to Swanston Street. For a while all tram services ground to a halt. Swanston Street is the main north-south tram corridor and eventually services resumed north from Melbourne Central Station and south from the Arts Precinct. East-West routes were diverted from Bourke Street and parallel Collins Street via La Trobe Street further north and the City Circle tram service was withdrawn along with short route 30. Normal service was not resumed until the following morning. At the new tram stop, which has blocked the traffic from exiting the end of Acland Street, two of Yarra Trams' new E Class units are seen side by side. Deliveries commenced in 2013 and a little over three years later 47 of the initial order for 50 are in service, more are to follow. On the left 6016 is proclaiming its route via La Trobe Street as were trams on route 12 at the Fitzroy Street/Acland Street junction across St Kilda. Alongside 6012 had just deposited its passengers and was heading back out of service, following two trams which had done shorts only as far as the Casino and Southbank depot. The 12 was also in a mess with three trams clustered at the terminus and departing within minutes of each other then a huge gap in service.
