Transperth Volvo electric Volgren Optimus
The Bus & Coach Society of Victoria's tour division has been active of late and last weekend they bid farewell to two of Ventura's Volgren bodied Scania L94UA artics, 136 (0150AO) and 730 (2159AO), which are to be replaced by new Volgren Optimus bodied Scania artics. The day involved runs along the routes the buses regularly operated from Dandenong to Knox City and Frankston out on the Mornington Peninsula. The first photo call was the Volgren factory on Dandenong where a new Volvo all electric with bulbous roof mountings was displayed almost ready to depart for Western Australia to Transperth who are planning an all electric fleet built, presumably, at the Volgren plant in Perth. This is thought to be the first and consequently built at Volgren's Dandenong HQ. The grey day did little to help the battleship grey look of the bus, wjich will hopefully receive the customary green relief before entering service. Compared to the BYD Optimus built for Transdev Melbourne the Volvo appears to be carrying a greater load on the roof making it look quite ungainly. The bus makes an interesting comparison with the clean lines of the pioneering Crompton Electricar of fifty years ago featured last week.
We have thousands of pictures to choose from for our Picture of the Week but you are welcome to send in your own. If we do not feature it here, it may appear later in our picture gallery.
