It was a chaotic Saturday in Melbourne with the Grand Prix, Annual Flower Show, a major footie match and the rain. An odd site near Queen Victoria Market after lunch was the sight of all three Class W dining cars being "refuelled" by the caterers at this dead end by Flagstaff Gardens. This activity usually takes place at the Yarra Trams South Melbourne depot, but as the track nearby was hosting express trams to the Grand Prix they did not want Class W trams plodding along and holding things up. The section of track between the depot and Southern Cross Station was non stop for all services sharing the Grand Prix express routes with some concerned and confused passengers being hurtled by their usual stops and facing a long trek back.
