Earlier this month Mills-Tui bodied MAN 18.250 is seen on Fraser Island, stopped at a fresh water creek along the Ninety Mile Beach. The newly named Kelsian Group, owners of Tower Transit, NZ Bus and Transit Systems, amongst other operations, controls most of the toruism on the island. It operates the only two resorts on the Island as well as the Sealink barge service. Kelsian is an anagram of Sealink, but though the company was founded in ferry operations around Australia it has expanded into land based operations. For Fraser Island it not only provides buses linking to the Ferry Terminal from Hervey Bay but also the by-necessity 4x4 transport on the island. These predominantly MAN machines offer day tours, or longer expeditions, negotiating the islands sand tracks which are often little wider than the machine and are severely rutted, testing the suspension to the max! Across on the far shore is the Ninety Mile Beach and part of the tour features a mad dash along the beach, splashing along the sea edge. The buses go as far as the SS Maheno ship wreck, a once elegant cruise ship plying the waters across the Tasman to New Zealand. It was being towed to Japan for scrap when a storm cut it adrift to become a rusting hulk on the Ninety Mile Beach.
