Don't they look good in yellow! Last month it was Mexico City, this month the allure of Alexander Dennis' Enviro500MMC has taken me to St Gallen in eastern Switzerland. Both cities are ones which I would not have otherwise contemplated visiting, but both proved attractive destinations. Also if you plan to see the St Gallen Enviros do not visit on August 1st, it is a national holiday and the Sunday service does not require doubledeckers on 120 and 240 routes on which they can normally be seen. The Swiss PostAuto bus company is no stranger to doubedeckers and the Enviro500 buses are gradually replacing a fleet on rather square Neoplan doubledeck boxes on wheels, the company having lost ots usual flair for styling when it churned them out. PostAuto has a very diverse bus fleet with Volvos, Citaros, Ivecos and MAN buses all much in evidence. The Enviros work cross city service 120 and the 240, which heads to Rorschach and beyond on Lake Constance. The 240 has a basic half hourly singledeck service via Goldach, where the deckers are housed, but the deckers work a faster more direct route at peaks and lunchtimes. Enviro500MMC 10431 (AR44137) is seen at St Gallen Station having arrived on a fast 240 on Thursday morning this week. It is believed to be the first of the nineteen on order which is being delivered over several months.
