Sydney Buses Volvo B7RLE Custom CB80 2845
Amidst the chaos at Sydney Central, 2845 finds a layover spot on Pitt Street. The Lilyfield tram line has been closed in its entirety for several days after Christmas and Transdev buses are providing a replacement service and those buses are mixing with the fleet of coaches and buses replacing trains on Newcastle line. They join the likes of Greyhound and Australia Wide whose services have been displaced from outside Central Station by construction of the new tramway line. The line crosses from Pitt Street to Elizabeth Street via Eddy Avenue rather than utilising the existing tracks along Hay Street because - believe it or not - the new tram line is a different gauge to the existing one. One immediately thinks of the problems Australians had linking state railways of different gauges, changing locos and rolling stock at border crossings. Obviously nothing learned from that experience!
