When most people have gone to bed, Yarra Trams' maintenance crews spring into life. This scene is 11.30 in the evening of November 14th 2011 on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda. The last trams of the evening have been replaced by buses and the crews are preparing to work on the track overhead.

Major works were undertaken on St Kilda Road over Easter in 2012. A large section of the tramway was completely renewed resulting in the closure of a long section from around Lorne Street up to and including the Domain Interchange. The latter was only out of action for a short time for some surface repairs to the track bed on the curved section. However it was wholesale destruction back along St Kilda Road. Shuttle buses bridged the gap in service between start of the works and the Arts Precinct, which was the easiest place to turn the buses back.

Here four jack drills are working to destroy a section of track. There were several sets of these machines working in groups of around nine along the length of St Kilda Road.

A line of trucks stretching into the distance waits to take the rubble away as the CAT grabber lifts the broken concrete into the back of the first in line.

The steel rails were salvaged, presumably for scrap and taken off by separate trucks.
