The minibus revolution started in the Devon General fleet and whilst multicoloured
fleets of Transits took to the streets around Exeter and Torquay, 526 (C526FFJ)
effectively retained the traditional Devon General cooours, but acquired a new
name: BayLine. Those pioneering minibuses, like 526, are now heading into preservation.

Harry Blundred, who acquired Devon General and its Ford Transit fleet in the early
days of privatisation, went on to acquire South Midland. South Midland was the
"London Country" of Oxford, a company with an operating area the shape of a polo
mint whilst the city services were retained by City of Oxford. The mini magic was
tried in Oxford too with a fleet including Mellor bodied vehicles on the new
Transit chassis. E211BDV passed on to Pete's travel in the West Midlands, before
recently entering preservation.
