InterCity in New Zealand appears to operate in a similar way to National Express in the UK by contracting coaches from a variety of operators. The company's major shareholders are Ritchies Transport and TraNZit Group with 46.3% each.

The coach network in New Zealand was once run as a division of the railways by NZRRS (New Zealand Railways Road Services). This Tourliner II bodied Volvo B10M dates back to that era but when seen in April 2005 was Ritchies 537 (BCT799), originally NZRRS 1037 (1037IC). The twenty year old coach is seen near the end of its days in Dunedin. |

Doubledeck coaches have been a long standing feature of New Zealand intercity coaches. Seen with B10M 537 behind, this two year old Kiwi bodied Volvo B12, Ritchies' 524 (BCF581) dominates the terminal. |

Also at the busy Dunedin terminal was this Kiwi bodied Dennis Javelin built the same year, Ritchies' 528 (BKF962), which sadly was burnt out in 2016. |
