Denoting a new era for Reading Buses at SHOWBUS 2004 was this newly delivered long wheelbase East Lancs Omnidekka bodied Scania N94UD, 801 (YN54AEP). The livery was also new as the generic Reading standard, with most buses to be matched to colour coded routes. The new fleet of Scanias was a departure from normal supplier, Optare, and had yet to enter service in Reading when 801 appeared at SHOWBUS.

Second in the batch was 802 (YN54AET), seen at work in Reading in July almost four years later.

By 2012 the generic livery had lightened to this predominantly silver style seen on the next of the batch, 803 (YN54AEU), seen on Dorney Lake Olympic Shuttles under contract to First.

Whilst the number of buses deployed on Dorney Lake Olympic shuttles might look like overkill in these two pictures, when events finished it was every bus to the pumps as vehicles shifted the crowds back to Maidenhead or Windsor & Eton Stations or large Park & Ride sites in Slough and Maidenhead. Here is 802 again, now in the new silver livery with all Scania N230UD 1111 (YN08MMJ) and Alexander Dennis Enviro 400H hybrid 207 (SN11BVM) and several First Enviro400s. Scania 1111 has the third evolution of the generic fleet livery, retaining the silver front but reverting to a charcoal shade beyond, together with a nre style of fleetname.

This integral Scania N94UD needs a closer look, numbered 599 (YN07LHD), the bus was new as an ethanol powered Scania demonstrator and was the forerunner of a batch of fourteen CN230UD ethanol powered buses put into service on purple route 17. Sadly the buses were not as economical as had been hoped and were ultimately repowered with diesel engines. The status of 599's power train in late December 2010 when seen at Reading Stations is not known.
