The first of Southampton's expected fleet of eighteen Wright Fusion articulated Volvo B7LAs was displayed to much acclaim at the Royal Victoria Bus Rally in July 2000. As the scrolling destination indicates, the fleet of vehicles cost was around £3.5m.

The bus, as yet unnumbered and unregistered, took enthusiastic passengers for a brief trip round the rally field.

As this view shows, the styling of the Wright Fusion bodies is as impressive from the rear as the goldfish bowl front end.

Another frontal view. Sadly the buses did not last long in Southampton. The local council speed hump policy caused excessive wear on their turntable suspensions and despite appeals for a more bus-friendly solution to the problems which brought about the speed humps the Council did nothing to help and the buses were moved elsewhere in the First empire.
