The next Bedford deliveries were of Wadham Stringer bodied YMTs, again 61 seaters, like 79 (MKP179W). Two years earlier Duple Bedford 75 had been delivered in a special livery of brown and cream to celebrate the undertakings 75th anniversary. The livery was adopted as standard.

This harshly styled singledecker is a far cry from the Wright Eclipse. Back in 1981, Maidstone was one of the first companies to buy Wright bodies in mainland Britain like TT bodied 140 (CKM140Y), another YMT with 61 seats.

Sister vehicle 141 (CKM141Y) shows the angular lines of the equally uninspiringly named TT even better.

Maidstone bought the four Bedford JJL built. They were bodied by Marshalls in Cambridge and are seen by some as the precursor to the Dennis Dart. The prototype and demonstrator found its way into the Maidstone fleet as 334 (AVS903T).

JJL 335 (UKK335X) is seen parked up in the town centre distributing OAP travel tokens.
