Interestingly despite the intake of Bristols, Southdown acquired Leyland engined Daimler Fleetlines in the early days of NBC ownership, so 386 (XUF386K), seen in Brighton's Pool Valley alongside a Queen Mary Titan, arrived in traditional livery. Less traditional was its ECW body.

Sister vehicle 390 (XUF390K) is seen a few years later having succombed to the nationwide corporate image.

Southdown 731 (SCD731N) is preserved, unlike the Fleetlines it was delivered new in NBC green and white. Southdown was one of the few fleets to operate both the NBC standards, the Bristol/ECW VR and the Atlantean/Park Royal. As its blind at Cobham 2001 shows, it was put to work on the prestigious Coastliner route when new in 1974.

A second batch arrived with almost matching LCD-P registrations, minus the 7 prefix, but these were fitted with near identical bodies from Leyland's Roe plant in Leeds. This is 744 or 746 seen arriving in Portsmouth.
