Southdown 1706 (2706CD) conjours up the image of the typical Southdown touring coach, seen the length and breadth of the country back in the sixties. Many of these coaches - though not this one - were mere 28 seaters, their 2 plus 1 seating reflecting the overall luxury of the tours. Locally built Harrington coachwork adorned early L-class Leopard chassis and the two tone green and cream livery announced it was "Southdown". Almost fully restored 1706 is seen here at the 1999 North Weald Rally in typical summer weather! |

The graceful lines of 1726 (2726CD) are set off against the dome of the American Air Museum at SHOWBUS international 2002. |
The same coach is seen earlier in the year at Southsea. |
Also at Southsea was 1703 (2703CD) in the all green livery. |
Seen at Showbus 1999 was this evocative grouping of former Southdown vehicles, including two of the classic Northern Counties bodied Queen Mary PD3 Titans. They are flanked by Willowbrook Leopard 199 (KUF199F) and, nearest the camera, Southdown classic: Brighton built Harrington bodied touring coach 1706. |
