Looking very Tilling in appearance, red with rich cream relief is former South Yorkshire Metrobus Mark I 1847 (JHE147W). It is seen with two elderly Atlanteans and an East Lancs bodied Olympian at the Portswood depot of First Southampton. It found its way to Southampton from its first post Sheffield owner, Capital Citybus (First Capital). Ironically former London Buses Metrobuses were then finding their way into the First Mainline fleet from First Centrewest. |

Many of South Yorkshire's Metrobuses were disposed of early as the company became over supplied and short of cash. Several found their way into further service as open toppers, mostly through the hands of Ensignbus. Indeed this one, former 1837, has become 167 (JHE137W) in Ensignbus' own London Sightseeing operation, London Pride, which was formed as a merger between London Pride and Ensign's operations in 1985. Eventually it became the heart of the London City Sightseeing operation.

Former South Yorkshire PTE 490 (JWF490W), became 266 with Ensignbus' Stratford City Sightseeing operation. It is seen here with ex Burnley & Pendle in Lancashire, but then Stagecoach Midland Red, 20401 (E61JFV), an early Alexander P-bodied Volvo B10M. |
There should be no mistaking the location - the Monument in Washington DC. There could be some mistaking of the bus. The MCW Metrobus bears plates from former Stratford based South Yorkshire PTE 490, JWF490W. However the City Sightseeing Metrobus fleet is a mixed bag and there is no need to maintain the correct registration plate on a particular bus once it has left UK shores. Nonetheless 318, seen in August 2010, is believed to be Ensignbus' former 266. |
