Carousel Mercedes Sprinter 516CDI EVM 980
The introduction of London's low emission zone has impacted long standing services in the Uxbridge area on the edge of the Greater London area. Redline used to operate from Slough via Langley and Iver Heath to Uxbridge their route 583 on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council. As their fleet contains no Euro6 specification buses the curtailed the service at Langley as route 83. Carousel Buses were contracted by Bucks to continue to link the communities of Ritchings Park and Iver Heath to Uxbridge. So dwarfed by the Abellio Alexander Dennis Enviro400MMC behind, 2525 (YX15OWR), this is Carousel's 980 (RN19WSV), an EVM bodied Mercedes Sprinter CDI on the 581, at least one other Sprinter has just been prepared in the company's normal red livery. The bus is seen in York Road where the rest of the company's "Chiltern Hundreds" services to High Wycombe are banquished and kept out of the Bus Station immediately outside the Underground Station. Outer London orbital Green Line service 724 is similarly ousted there too. Equally scant mention is made of these services on TfL publicity. High Wycombe will not be listed as a destination reachable from Uxbridge. Neither was Slough, it too having lost its long standing service operated by First Berkshire, the 58. It was the successor to London Transport country area route 457, once operated by RT and later RML buses, the 583 was the successor to the 458, an RF route, the singledeckers necessitated by the low bridge at Langley Railway Station. The demise of the 58 is also thought to be due to the necessity for Euro6 buses within Greater London. The 581 is a three trips a day link from Denham, in between the bus does one 583 run to Richings Park as a 458 replacement and one to Iver as a 457/58 replacement. The 457 used to be half hourly when operated by 72 seat Routemasters, 980 seats sixteen!
