Track work on the Sandringham Line in Melbourne between Elsternwick and the city this weekend has prompted a rail replacement service provided by Ventura. This is an elderly member of the fleet, a 2000 Volgren CR221L bodied Mercedes O405NH, new to Grenda as 510 (4510AO) and still retains that fleet number. Ironically it is newer than the Comeng trains usually used on the line that it is replacing, by at least twelve years. The train service is normally every twenty minutes on a Saturday, but the replacemnet buses are every ten, though 510 was running ten minutes late. Nonetheless it is interesting that six carriage trains can be replaced by just two 45-seat buses.
