Sydney Buses MAN ND323F Gemilang Eco doubledecker B-Line
We tweeted a picture of one of the new Gemilang bodied MAN ND323F for the Sydney Buses Northern Beaches B-Line route when it was on test last month. Seen coming off the Harbour Bridge thsi Friday is 2874 (2874ST), the buses having now entered service. On the hour plus run there are only eleven stops between Wynyard Station in the city and Mona Vale, where they are all based at the local depot. Loadings are good but none of the Park & Ride sites to go with the service are completed as yet. On board displays and the destination blinds are GPS linked, the only obvious manifestation being an abrupt change to "Not in Service" before the bus has reached its terminus. New yellow and blue bus shelters match the buses with real time displays, though clearly some buses GPS linking was not working on the day when this picture was taken and several buses only showed timetabled departure times and promptly disappeared off the screen long before the bus arrived, as witnessed six minutes late at the Mona Vale departure stop! Amazingly four buses are off the road being cannibalised for spares. Two buses shunted each other in the depot and spare parts are on their way - by boat - in four weeks time. They should have gone with Alexander Dennis, renowned for their back up support these days and they have built over 10000 low floor deckers. The interiors are bright in yellow and blue and have a new moquette which does not have the graffiti design used hitherto, so maybe the buses will not be defaced as readily as most of the State Transit fleet. The buses also feature USB charging points, but no hint of this facility is apparent. With frequencies of up to five minutes, bunching is apparent and exacerbated by drivers being told not to overtake the one in front. Go figure.
We have thousands of pictures to choose from for our Picture of the Week but you are welcome to send in your own. If we do not feature it here, it may appear later in our picture gallery.
