Very sad to receive this amongst other tram photos from Ed Goodridge this week after his visit to Lisbon. It is believed to be number 2 in the Carris fleet. One of a pair of specially contoured Gloria class trams used on the steep furnicular line between Praįa dos Restauradores and upper Bairro Alto. The line has been a National Monument since 1997, but this car had been desecrated by vandals totally covered by vulgar graffiti. It appears that this was not a recent occurence, online pictures suggests that these trams are regular targets. Because of their unique design they probably cannot be driven to the depot overnights, but clearly better security - lighting and CCTV, plus anti graffiti coatings - could keep them protected. Tram 1 in contrast appeared to be unscathed, but did look like a recent repaint.
