The red brick St James depot in Northampton oozes municipal pride from a bygone era. On this Sunday in late 2003 the place is shut up with no vehicles in sight and only a handful of First buses on service in the town.

First Northampton Volvo Citybus Alexander 286
Volvo Citybus 286 was one of the few doubledeckers in service on that Sunday in 2003. Stagecoach had more operating, including Volvo Olympian 16222 (R702DNH), both with an Alexander bodies.

First Northampton Leyland Atlantean Northern Counties 6479
Manchester standard 6479 (ANA629Y) transferred to First Northampton in 2002. The Leyland Atlantean has Northern Counties bodywork and was clearly acquired for school contract work. It is on display at SHOWBUS international 2002 in "Barbie 2" livery but without the magenta fade.

The West division of dismembered Midland Red had few doubledeckers, but when under common management former Northampton Volvo Citybus 126, then First 38126 (K126URP), was working for Midland Red in Stratford-upon-Avon in September 2012.

First Essex Volvo B7TL Wright Eclipse Gemini 32628
Seen in Colchester in July 2022 Wright Eclipse Gemini bodied Volvo B7TL 32628 (KP54KAU) which had been new to First Northampton but had ended up with First Essex in the latest First colours.
