Renown 124 did nit survive to be repainted in the new Renown livery as it hit the notorious bridge near Staines on a private hire trip to Thorpe Park. The bridge being the reason that London Transport used lowbridge RLH buses on the 436 from Staines to Guildford. Perhaps if Nottingham had fitted lowheight bodies to its Renowns all would have been well. Luckily no one was seriously injured in the incident. When SHOWBUS 80 was held at Thorpe Park the bridge was a serious concern and great lengths were made to ensure no highbridge entrants used that route to the new Park.

The view inside the damaged top deck of 124. Beyond a couple of Leyland Nationals can be seen and one of the Caetano Alpha bodied Bedford YMT coaches new in 1980, probably 143 (FJO143V). The Middle Garage can also be seen with its new doors facing the yard. Prviously the door was in the left wall opening into the narrow exit way from the yard which was always a tight turn.
