An interesting line up of Bristol RELL buses at Reading. On the left in Tilling red is 416 (AMO234J) whilst its twin (from a batch of 2) is on the right in NBC poppy red livery: 415 (AMO233J) - originally Thames Valley 228/227. In the centre in Alder Valley Ribble red is 494 (DRX633K) which was one of the first vehicles delivered new to Alder Valley. |
Bristol RELL6G 416 is seen again in Slough on the subsidised 22B service to Eton Wick. |
ALDER VALLEY |
In full NBC colours with double N radiator badge, 493 (DRX632K), is seen at a Hillingdon SHOWBUS. |
Alder Valley 488 (HOR488L) was ordered by Aldershot & District but delivered to the new Alder Valley company. Whilst A&D and TVTC had few overlapping areas of operation, their vehicle buying policies were already growing together. A&D had left the AEC Reliance for the Bristol RE, initially with Marshall dual door bodies, but later with ECW, which is what RESL6G 488 has, seen here on a former Thames Valley route in Windsor Central Station. |
Alder Valley's ever recurring vehicle shortages resulted in this Maidstone Corporation Massey bodied Leyland Titan PD2A 17 (517RKR) seen lined up with native RELL6L 479 (EBL438K) and National 120 (KCG620L) in Reading's Thorn Walk depot. RE 479 was amongst the last buses delivered to Thames Valley and was numbered directly into the Alder Valley series, the bus was originally intended to be Southdown 606. |
