Waiting at the back of the Red Rover yard in Aylesbury is 161, none less than former London Transport LS1, LT's first Leyland National. |
  |
Freshly painted, the first in a new - and final - version of the Red Rover livery, 161 is about to leave the Aylesbury yard to attend the Cardiff 1985 Bus Rally. The blind is set to "Day Tour" and Traffic Manager, the late Chris Day, is behind the wheel. |

Back in Aylesbury and out earning money, 161 passes Keith Garages on the commercially operated Sunday Countrybus 22. At the wheel is jovial Red Rover inspector Tony Lawrence. The bus was later used by Ensignbus as their 502, being bought by them in 1988 but ended up with Galleon/Trustline in Hertfordshire the following year and was sadly scrapped in 1990. |

Back in South Wales, Parfitt's of Rhymney Bridge was another operator of ex London Nationals and LS427 (BYW427V) is seen in Merthyr Bus Station squeezing between another National and a Duple Dominant bodied Leyland Tiger.
