I am sure the intention was good, but acquiring Southampton's two Strachan bodied AEC Swifts to help Alder Valley over its engineering crisis probably made the situation worse. Swifts 397/8 (MTR422/3F) were Southampton 4 & 5. They were acquired in July 1974 and 398, above, was sold to Rees & Williams of Tycroes two years later, though what happened to 397, sold at the same time, is unknown. The view is in Aldershot depot in familiar circumstances. |
Two retired Guide Friday Atlanteans at the 2006 Alton Bus Rally in glorious open top weather. On the left is former Southampton East Lancs bodied Atlantean 139 (WOW529J), lettered for the Bournemouth Tour, and on the right former Plymouth 125 (STK125T), with Roe bodywork in a Guide Friday inspired livery. The bus had worked for Guide Friday before its semi preservation. |
We acquired this picture of East Lancs bodied Atlantean PDR 148 (OCR148G) in its post-Southampton guise as a mobile computer game demonstration unit. The then owners were hoping to bring it to a Woburn Showbus, but it never made it.

The distinctive dual door Mellor body on this Fiat 59-12 instantly identify it as a product originally destined for Harry Blundred's minibus revolution fleets. This one served with Blue Admiral in the relatively short lived Portsmouth area operation. Harry Blundred's Transit Holdings company acquired its Portsmouth services from Stagecoach which was forced to divest itself of the former Portsmouth Citybus routes because of its adjacent Southdown operations. The municipal operations of Porstmouth had been sold to then employee owned Southampton Citybus. Both operations later ended up together again under First ownership. Seen with Welsh operator 2 Travel, the bus was being exhibited at the Cardiff Centenary display in 1985. |

Seen in use in Weymouth with Southern National was this Robin Hood bodied Iveco 49.10 twenty one seater in an all over yellow. The bus was new to Provincial in 1986 as 116 (D116DRV). |
