In 1970 King Alfred splashed out on three new buses, all Leylands with Plaxton Derwent bodies. Unfortunately they were the somewhat unreliable Panther rear engined model. Notwithstanding the last of the trio, UOU419H, has survived and made the journey to Scarborough in April 2007 for the Plaxton Centennial Event.

In 1964 King Alfred bought two AEC Renown 3B2RA with Park Royal lowheight 73 seat bodies. These popular buses were icons of the fleet through into the final days of the company's independence, when it sold out to its long standing and much larger neighbour,
Hants & Dorset
. The buses donned NBC poppy red and ran alongside standard Bristols for several years. Both buses have been preserved by FOKAB and both have been modelled by
EFE
. Seen at the Royal Victoria Rally in 2008 is 596LCG.

The next - and last - doubledeckers for King Alfred were a quartet of Roe bodied Leyland Atlanteans, of which this was the fourth, HOR592E. It is seen at the 2015 Alton Rally.
