Sydney's Leyland Atlantean fleet had an unhappy life in the city. On arrival they were at the centre of a long running union dispute over one man operation. The first were delivered in 1970, part of an initial order for 200 PDR1A/1 models. They saw littke use, being stored for months - and in some cases years - whilst the dispoute rumbled on. Consequently a second order for another 100 was cut back to 24 being the PDR1A/2 model. The buses were also plagued with reliability problems, probably not helped by standing unused for so long. The buses thus had a short life with the STA, withdrawal starting in 1979 and the last running in 1986. Once sold the buses served with private operators for much longer, primarily as school buses, all over Australia.

Not long after the picture was taken in March 2012, 303 was sold to Magic Bus in Byron Bay, but was written off after being hit by a truck. The fleet has since been joined by a new Hobart Explorer branded Anhui Ankai doubledecker (D21HO) open topper, as used on the Sydney Explorer and former Fantastic Aussie Tours closed top MCW Metrobus D35QG, originally London Metrobus M450. In 2014 the fleet was completed by 301 (DZ4499), another former Fantastic Aussie Tours bus and originally Plymouth MCW Atlantean 144. By 2017 a second Ankai and a BCI Citirider had joined the fleet.

Interline Leyland Atlantean PMC
Back over the 2002 Christams peiod sadly running no more, but clearly once used as a school bus in the Interline fleet is fleet number 50. It has not been possible to determine which former Sydney PMC bodied Atlantean this was, seen alongside a Ford recovery vehicle at the depot.
