East Staffs DC Daimler CCG5 Massey 100
Typical of Burton-on-Trent Corporation Transport Department's fleet for many years was the five cylinder Daimler CCG5 with Massey bodywork. This was from the last batch delivered, 100 (JFA600F). Over half the fleet was identical and prior to that it was five cylinder Guy Arabs that found favour. With local government reorganisation in 1974 the fleet adopted this livery and a fleetname reflecting the expanded area of government. In 1985 the council merged its operations with private operator Stevensons which took the controlling interest in the operation. Ironically talk years earlier had been of the Corporation taking over the independent! Stevensons went on to become the biggest independent bus company in the country before selling out to what is now Arriva in 1994.

East Staffs DC Daimler Fleetline Northern Counties 106
It would have been a shock to the engineering when six cylinder Daimler Fleetlines came along, but they were broken in gently with unusual Willowbrook bodied singledeckers (see later). Amongst the first doubledeckers was 106 (RFA406J) bodied by Nothern Counties. Burton is synonymous with brewing beer and the local Ind Coope brand was to be found over a wide area in the days when pubs were tied to their breweries so 106 was probably extolling its virtues to a captive market.

East Staffs DC Daimler Fleetline Willowbrook 13
A clue as to when the pictures on this page were taken as later Fleetline 13 (NFA13M) is lettered for the 1977 Silver Jubilee. No special livery, but East Staffordshire's livery was already red, white and blue. The body styling is clearly based on that of nearby Nottingham.

Languishing in the depot minus its front panel was sister vehicle 14 (NFA14M).

East Staffs DC Leyland Tiger Cub Park Royal 24
Some of Bournemouth's Park Royal bodied Leyland Tiger Cubs, dating from 1955, were acquired. Former 267, now 24, was also resting in the gloom of the depot.
