 This was a Leyland 501 engined Bristol VRTSL3 new to Crosville in 1981 as DVL494 (WTU494W). The bus has had a checkered career, having moved on to Bee Line Buzz in 1989 when Crosville was dismembered, to PMT in 1990 then exported to New Zealand in 1992 arriving in Dunedin in a red livery in 1994. It is seen in Dunedin on New Zealand's South Island in April 2005 where it performs the city tour in the company of an ex Eastern Counties VR. Here the bus pauses for a photo opportunity of the Dunedin City stretched out in front of the sound. |
 The tour starts in the City Octagon outside the tourist office, indicated by the "i-site" banner. The "First City Tours" branding has no link to a certain UK bus and rail operator but relates to the fact that Dunedin was the first city of New Zealand, before Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington outgrew it. |
 One of the stop offs on route is to view - but not climb - the road to the left of the front of the bus, Baldwin Street, officially the steepest road in the world, verified by the Guinness Book of Records and displacing a street in San Francisco to second place. An annual activity of rolling down the street in a barrel has been officially discontinued after serious injuries, but Cadburys sponsor an annual race with their Jaffa brand sweets. |
 One of the most imposing buildings in Dunedin is its Victorian Railway Station. The stunning booking hall boasts 750,000 tiles of Royal Doulton and the station has the longest platform in the southern hemisphere - just no trains! There is a tourist train which goes half way across the island and through some spectacular scenery. |
 Seen on the station forecourt RP6117, as DVL494 is now known and the Eastern Counties VR had been repainted and refurbished around the time these pictures were taken in Easter 2005, Newtons cursing afterwards when they learnt of the availability of ex Hong Kong Olympians in the country. |
