Arriva initially put its purchase of Colchester Borough Transport under the control of Arriva the Shires & Essex trading as Arriva serving Colchester. In 2004 the operation was sold to Tellings Golden Miller who placed under the control of their Burtons Coaches subsidiary and rebranded the operation Network Colchester. Initially vehicles ran in Arriva livery. like Leyland Lynx 357 (H257GEV), which started life as LX257 with County Bus & Coach. The bus is seen in Colchester in May 2005.

Originally Clydeside 506 (M846DDS) was briefly 319 in the Network Colchester fleet. it too is seen in May 2005, being followed into the city by several First Essex vehicles.
