We are delighted to announce that the Wing Tour Bus will be on display at Brunel University during the SHOWBUSflyby on Sunday 18th September. An added bonus June 18th is Paul McCartney's birthday. As can be seen from this selection of photos the superb restoration is complete and the bus will again be on display at the University fifty years since its last appearance at our first bus event in January 1973. The former Eastern National ECW bodied Bristol KSW5G is celebrating its fiftieth birthday this year, new as 4216 (WNO481), becoming 2383 when rebuilt as an open topper in 1966 along with several similar buses most of which enjoyed prolonged lives plying the seafronts of Clacton, Southend, etc. It then went on to serve Eastern Counties later passing to Uxbridge operator, Valliant Silverline, who chartered the bus to Paul McCartney's Wings group for their debut tour of Europe in 1972, so it was Valliant-Silverline who brought it to Brunel with one of their latest Plaxton Panorama Elite coaches in their distinctive red and silver livery. It was used as a promotional vehicle by Tricentrol for some years in their mustard and white colours before reprising its Wings role with Whites Coaches of St Albans making several celebrity appearances including two with Cilla Black, finally ending up in Tenerife as a tourist attraction outside a rock cafe, It deterioated over time there but luckily Justin James spotted it, acquired it and brough it back to Oxfordshire on a lowloader and the lengthy process of restoration has finally brought this iconic bus back to its 1972 condition.
