Arriva London Alexander Dennis Enviro400HCity HA9
Alexander Dennis Enviro400HCity was developed for London to blend in with the New Routemaster. Cheaper than the New Routemaster, the bus was expected to find uptake on routes which do not penetrate the city centre and dual stairs and triple doors were not as necessary. The new Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has turned against the New Routemaster stopping further orders, banishing their conductors and thereby ending the rear platform anytime access. Perhaps because the New Routemaster was popularly dubbed Borismaster after his predecessor, he has also banned the new Alexander Dennis Enviro400HCity and Wright's newly developed SRM because they look like Borismasters! Fortunately around a thousand Borismaster-style buses will be in the streets of London for some time, unlike the bendibuses which departed prematurely, swept away by Borismasters. Undoubtedly the New Routemaster has established itself as an iconic design and symbol of the city depicted on many London souvenirs. Fortunately for Alexander Dennis their investment in new tooling and design has not been totally wasted with the stylish City finding buyers outside the capital, most recently being chosen for Nottingham's new fleet of gas powered doubledeckers. Amongst the first Enviro400HCity buses to enter London service was Arriva London's HA9 (LK65BZF) seen in Peckham last October.
