Port Authority New Flyer D60LFR 3309
Thanks again to Nidhi Sharma for this week's picture, or more precisely thanks to her friend who lives in Pittsburgh for this amazing scene from her daily commute. The Fern Hollow Bridge collapsed at 0639 on January 28th, ironically just before President Biden was due to visit the city and announce Federal funding for a nationwide bridge maintenance program. Whilst around ten people were injured, including some first responders, only three people were taken to hospital. The Port Authority of Allegheny County's New Flyer D60LFR 3309 was one of the vehicles on the bridge at the time and had nearly cleared it when the structure failed. Two passengers on board were able to descend by a ladder placed at the front door. The bus was rescued from its predicament down in the hollow on Tuesday this week by crane. Amazingly the bus was still capable of moving under its own power but was only shunted to where it could be towed away for inspection. Sadly, though new in 2013, it is thought likely to be written off. You can see more pictures of Port Authority buses in our SHOWBUS AMERICA gallery. You can also see a YouTube video of the recovery operation here.
