Nishitetsu Scania K360UA Volgren Optimus 104
No, it's not Australia! This week we are in Hakata, Japan, where a number of Volgren Optimus bodied Scania K360UA articulated buses have recently been deployed on the new Fukuoka BRT. The BRT is something of a misnomer, it may have been exceptionally quiet today, but the buses were waiting excessively long times at stops waiting for the timetable - over two minutes in ine instance. There appeared to be no priority measures for the BRT and stops had not been modified for the 18 metre buses, drivers having difficulty positioning the vehicles especially as passengers enter by the rear two sets of doors and exit at the front. Buses are generally pay as you leave in Japan, a system that would never work in Scotland as the buses would be permanently full! The Scanias share the route with what appear to be a smaller number of new Mercedes artics also operated by local company, Nishitetsu.
We have thousands of pictures to choose from for our Picture of the Week but you are welcome to send in your own. If we do not feature it here, it may appear later in our picture gallery.
Ideally pictures should be 732 pixels wide and no more than 100kB.
